Overpopulation

I am about to go off on this thing where I express my own thoughts and opinions. I want to make it clear that these are only my opinions. Some of what I am about to say is based on facts, while other things that I say are my own thoughts and feelings. So yeah, here we go.

Population

According to http://www.census.gov/popclock, as of this moment the world population is 7,200,983,820. There is approximately one birth every 8 seconds and one death every 13 seconds. This is a net gain of one person every 15 seconds.

In 1804 the world population reached 1 billion. It took 123 years for the population to reach 2 billion. 1960 (33 years later) the world reached 3 billion. The next billion came 14 years later. After that it was 13 years, then 12. There are conflicting opinions on this issue. Some believe that the world is becoming overpopulated. Others claim that the population will peak and stabilize.

The video above video pretty much sums it up perfectly. So, here is where we start getting into my personal thoughts. What if being gay is a way for the universe to slow down or counter overpopulation. Think about it. Gay people do not organically reproduce. Some choose to find a way through a surrogate or a donor, however many LGBTQ couples that decide to start a family choose to adopt. In these cases, not only are these couples not adding to the population, they are also reducing the amount of orphaned children on the planet. That’s a pretty big deal.

As gay marriage is becoming legal in more places, and same-sex couples are awarded more rights and privileges, these situations will become more common. Like I said, it’s just my opinion. It is kind of fun to think about though, don’t you think
